THE FACULTY OF LAW OF MY DREAM

FACULTY, LASULAWS, LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY
FACULTY OF LAW TWIN BUILDING
LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY

An arrow shot by an Archer may or  may not kill a single person, but the stratagem devised by a sagacious man can kill even the baby in the womb”…….

In the quest of actualizing the huge dream that has beckoned on my mind on a plethora of time, each moment I take a deep reflection of Faculty of Law, Lagos State University, it is expedient to give prompt and strong attention to a strategic persuasion. Lagos state is a Mega city and Faculty of Law must be a “Mega Faculty” to meet up with standard expected of an ideal legal institution worthy of recognition on the global map.
In order to achieve the Mega faculty dream, a focal shift of the gaze of the institution must be maintained on the followings;

E – Library: The first is in terms of Facilities, Lasu Law library is one of the best in Africa, however, the functioning of the E-library will foster better reading and research ability of the students. A faculty of law where the student will have a free access to the material both the online and also hard copy which will in turn culminate into inevitable Academic Excellence in the faculty.

 Conducive learning environment: “Man is a product of his environment and his success in life is primarily and largely, if not totally connected to his environment. Lecture room should be properly ventilated and Air conditioner should be installed in all classes for the student not to be under distress when receiving lectures or when reading and this will aid the intellectual capacity of the students and also allow proper and quick Assimilation.
Also, an historical sojourn of the prestigious Faculty of Law reveals that it has been gradually diminishing. In history, Faculty of Law, has only produced one First class student over the years. However, it is no gay saying that a Second class student of Faculty of Law out-stands a First class of other Faculty of Law in other institution. I crave for a Faculty of Law where we graduate a reasonable and substantial number of student as First class holder on a yearly basis to portray a good and excellent image of the Faculty.

Law reporting: It remains crystalline in the imagery of my dream, a Faculty of Lawwhere reports on Local and Foreign cases are published by the Faculty monthly or quarterly for easy accessibility of recent cases by the students.  This will improve students’ acquaintances with recent cases and also put the Faculty on a good pedestrian alongside other contemporary law Faculties in other schools. This might be tagged LASU LAW REPORTS for instance; university of Ibadan and also Obafemi Awolowo University (O.A.U) produce their law reports on a weekly and monthly basis.
To make the faculty a college that enjoys partial Autonomy as against total control by the institution.

Having a Faculty as a College on its own will strengthen the focus of the Faculty of and enhance its improvement for instance LASUCOM at Ikeja enjoys partial autonomy to make some laws on their own without interference from the school as a whole.
Ultimately, “when a group is stated, everything is stated, and when I say everything I mean everything”, thus in the realization of this mega faculty dream, collective practical and tactical efforts must be channeled by the students, lecturers, management etc towards the aforementioned suggestions.
