PRESS RELEASE AND RULES OF EQUITY PRICE OF ADVOCACY 2016
PRESS RELEASE
This is to
inform all partners of equity law firm that the 3rd edition of the Equity Price of Advocacy (EPA) comes up this semester.
This
academic and advocacy/research exercise is open to all levels. In order to
encourage active participation, cash prices shall be given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
positions along side certificate of excellence, while certificate of
participation shall be accorded to all participating partners.
Please be
informed that this advocacy/research contest is open to all members of the
faculty (Students). However, written briefs of 500level partners shall not be
assessed for the purpose of awarding prices.

RULES FOR
THE 3RD EQUITY PRICE OF ADVOCACY 2015
1.0.
DEFINITIONS
1.1. “EPA” means Equity Price of Advocacy
1.2. “PARTICIPANT” mean all partners of the
firm
1.3 “PARTICIPANT CODE” means the code
allocated to a participant by the Head of Litigation
2.0.
ELIGIBILITY FOR PARTICIPATION
2.1. The
contest is open to all fully admitted students of the faculty of law LASU irrespective
of their level.
3.0 CLARIFICATIONS
TO THE CASE
3.1. Participant
may request clarifications through personal contact with the Head of litigation
and Principal Partners.
4.0. ANONYMITY
OF PARTICIPANTS
4.1. Participant
shall on no occasion reveal their identity in any form, except by means of the
participant code allocated to them by the Head of Litigation upon recording
their interest to participate in the contest.
4.2. The
written submission shall not reveal the participants name or level, only the
participant code should be included.
4.3. Any
violation of rules 4.1 and 4.2 above shall attract severe penalty as determined
by the Head of Litigation.
5.0. REGISTRATION
All
interested partners are to register their interest with the Head of Litigation
on or before 24/6/16
6.0. WRITTEN SUBMISSION
6.1. Each
participant is requested to prepare a Written Submission for either the
Complainant or the Respondent of the case
6.2. Participants
shall send a soft copy of the written submission in word format through
electronic mail in accordance with the official schedule
6.3. Any
submission made after 11:30pm shall be considered to be late submission and
shall be penalized with 1 mark for each day delay until 18/7/16 (3:00 PM). Any
soft copy after this time shall not be accepted and such a participant shall be
disqualified subject to the discretion of the Head of Litigation which is
final.
6.4. The
hard copies must be the exact submission of the electronic copy. Any alteration
amounts to disqualification.
6.5. All
written submission MUST be submitted latest 18/7/16 by 5:00PM to the Head of
Litigation or his Delegates.
6.6. The
written submission shall consist
(a) Cover Page
(b) Table of Contents
(c) List of Abbreviations
(d) Index of Authorities
(e) Statement of Facts (not exceeding a page)
(f) Issues for determination
(g) Legal pleadings not exceeding
(12 pages)
(h) Prayers
6.7. The cover page of the written
submission must contain the following information
(a) The Participant code at the
upper right hand corner
(b) Name of forum resolving the
dispute (the Court)
(c) The name of the Case
(d) The party for which the
written submissions has been prepared
6.8. The written submission shall be
typed on A4- Sized paper, with the following Mandatory specification
(a) Font type:
Times New Roman
(b) Font Size:
12
(c) Line Spacing: 1.5
(d) Body of Text: Justified
For Footnotes, the formatting specifications
are:
(a) Font Type: Times New Roman
(b) Font Size: 10
(c) Single Spacing
(d) Paragraph Spacing: 0
(e) No additional space between two footnotes
(f) Body of Text: Justified
(g) Cases shall be cited in the following manner:
Parties, Law report, Date, Volume and page.
(h) Books/ Journals shall be cited in the
following manner: Title, Author, Edition and page
6.9. The
written submission shall not contain any annexure, photographs, graphs,
diagrams, or any other representation like nature
6.10. The written submission shall be spiral
bound in BLUE
6.11 All
written submission shall be graded in accordance with the lectures to be given
on How to prepare a written brief during the Upcoming Litigation Classes.
N.B Any written
submission violating any of the above mentioned specifications will be
penalized by deducting 1 mark each. [Maximum
Possible Deduction] 20 Marks
Any consideration whatsoever is
left at the sole discretion of the Head of Litigation.
